| dc.description.abstract | La malnutrición infantil, manifestada como desnutrición, deficiencia de micronutrientes y exceso de peso, constituye un problema de salud pública influenciado por los determinantes sociales de la salud. Este estudio tuvo como objetivo describir el estado nutricional y ofrecer un acercamiento a los determinantes sociales de la salud en niños y niñas menores de cinco años del barrio Palenque del municipio de Quibdó-Chocó en 2021. Ser realizó un estudio observacional descriptivo de corte transversal, recopilando información sociodemográfica, antropométrica sobre prácticas alimentarias, condiciones de vivienda y acceso a programas de asistencia alimentaria. Se calcularon frecuencias, intervalos de confianza y medidas de resumen. Se analizaron datos de 68 menores con una mediana de edad de 32 meses. El 88,23 % de los hogares reportó ingresos iguales o inferiores a un salario mínimo legal mensual vigente, el 29,41 % tenía alcantarillado y el 73,53 % presentó algún grado de inseguridad alimentaria. En cuando al estado nutricional, se identificó sobrepeso o riesgo de sobrepeso en el 29,41 % de los menores, desnutrición global o riesgo en el 7,35 %, retraso en talla en el 10,29 %, y doble carga de malnutrición en el 5,88 %. Los hallazgos sugieren la necesidad de estrategias intersectoriales que aborden simultáneamente dimensiones alimentarias, sanitarias, educativas y económicas en poblaciones vulnerables, priorizando intervenciones culturalmente pertinentes que promuevan entornos saludables desde la primera infancia. | spa |
| dc.description.abstractenglish | Child malnutrition—manifested as undernutrition, micronutrient deficiencies, and excess weight—constitutes a major public health problem driven by social determinants. This study aimed to describe the nutritional status of children under five years of age and to analyze the social determinants affecting their health in the Palenque neighborhood of Quibdó, Chocó Department, Colombia, in 2021. A descriptive, cross-sectional observational study was conducted, collecting sociodemographic and anthropometric data, as well as information on dietary practices, housing conditions, and access to food assistance programs. Frequencies, confidence intervals, and summary measures were calculated. Data from 68 children, with a median age of 32 months, were analyzed. Of the households, 88.23% reported an income equal to or less than the current monthly minimum wage, 29.41% had access to sewage systems, and 73.53% experienced some degree of food insecurity. Regarding nutritional status, 29.41% of the children were classified as overweight or at risk of overweight, 7.35% as presenting global malnutrition or at risk of malnutrition, 10.29% as stunted, and 5.88% as having a double burden of malnutrition. These findings underscore the need for intersectoral strategies that simultaneously address food, health, education, and economic dimensions in vulnerable populations, prioritizing culturally appropriate interventions that promote healthy environments from early childhood. | eng |
