    Expectativas dos discentes de Ciências Contábeis em relação ao mercado profissional : um estudo em uma instituição de ensino superior pública

    The present study aims to investigate the professional expectations of students in the Accounting Sciences course of a public Higher Education Institution. To this end, the sample is composed of 82 students from the first to the tenth period of the Accounting Sciences course at the State University of Rio Grande do Norte (UERN). The sample was divided into three groups, the first group with students from the first to the third period, the second group from the fourth to the sixth period, and the third group from the seventh to the tenth period. The instrument applied for data collection was a questionnaire adapted from Ferreira, Quintana, Cruz & Gomes (2020), using the Likert scale from 1 to 7, considering that 1 (one) represents “totally disagree” and 7 (seven) represents “totally agree”, in the sequence, the analysis of the results was performed using descriptive statistics of the data and the sum of the weighted averages, in order to calculate the Average Ranking (RM). The results indicate that most respondents said they are satisfied and motivated with the chosen course. The main student expectations indicate interest in taking a public tender, whether in the accounting area or not, as well as setting up an accounting office, on the other hand, there is little interest in working in teaching and in running a family business. As for the expected professional rewards, most respondents want professional growth and job stability.
